WIN-Belize's mentorship Program

WIN-Belize is in the process of revitalizing its Young Women Mentorship Program, which aims to:

•Create a forum for young women to interact and discuss issues affecting them

•Build and enhance the self-esteem of young women

•Encourage community awareness and involvement and

•Nurture young women to become advocates for women's rights

Some responsibilities of the Mentor include:

•Committing to spending a minimum of four hours a month with the mentee

•Be willing to communicate with the mentee as often as possible

•Willingness to attend a training session at which time you will meet your mentee

•Monthly reporting to Program Officer

The training session will cover boundaries which are one of the main concerns of Mentors, and can likewise be of concern for the Mentees.

WIN-Belize is hereby requesting your participation in this program as a Mentor, if interested please feel free to contact us, and an application form will be forwarded to you which will assist us in matching you with a Mentee. Please note that Mentees will be obtained from High Schools in Belize City as well as Alternative Educational Programs such as (YES, YWCA).

The Women's Issues Network of Belize (WIN-Belize) was established in 1993 by a group of women who were actively involved in addressing women's issues, such as: teenage pregnancy, family planning, economic empowerment, capacity building, and advocacy activities with and on behalf of women. These founding members had previously been loosely organized but were united in one common goal – to work for and to implement objectives that were conducive to the overall development of Belize, including the role, rights and responsibilities of women. Having participated in both international and national women's development activities, the group saw the need for formal mechanisms to strengthen local collaboration and networking.

La Ruta Maya 2011

The "WIN-Belize Bembes" will participate in the 2011 La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge to raise awareness of the many challenges women overcome daily, and to promote healthy life style choices. In keeping with the Women’s Month theme, “Valuing Ourselves: Promoting Shared Responsibility,“ the Bembes will be a mixed team, highlighting the need for men and women to unite to end Violence Against Women.

The "WIN-Belize Bembes“ dedicate their upcoming 170 mile paddle to the memory of women like Christie Carrasco, of Orange Walk, who was murdered this week as a result of gender based violence.
