In 2011, The "WIN-Belize Bembes" participated in the La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge to raise awareness of the many challenges women overcome daily and to promote healthy life style choices.

The Bembes were a mixed team, highlighting the need for men and women to unite to end Violence Against Women.

The "WIN-Belize Bembes“ dedicated their 170 mile paddle to the memory of women like Christie Carrasco, of Orange Walk, who was murdered as a result of gender based violence.
